Welcome Letter

Welcome Families,

Kindergarten is a time that children begin a lifetime of learning. It is a year for learning, growing, making friends, and a lot of fun, too!  Our days are filled with stories, letters, phonics, numbers, writing, and many other activities and memories. What a pleasure it will be to have your child in my classroom.
I have an exciting year planned full of opportunities for learning and growing. Your child will be studying about many aspects of life including; self, home, family, and community throughout the year, in addition to the standard Core and Montessori Curriculum.

Behavior:  With regard to behavior, your child is expected to act in a manner that will ensure safety and consideration for the feelings of others. Please see the behavior tab on the blog as well as the Student Handbook for further information about behavior and discipline.

Arrival/Dismissal: Prior to entering the building at 8:20, students will wait in a line by the Kindergarten Playground. This is a perfect place to say goodbyes for the day. As a class, we will enter the building at 8:20 in a quite, respectful manner. At 3:35, students can be picked up in the same place on the Kindergarten Playground.

Homework: Homework will be sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. It is essential that the student try to complete the homework independently as it will often times be a “reteach” of what was covered that day/week in school.

Friday Folders: These folders go home every Friday. Please return the folder on Monday. Your child’s weekly work and important school wide information will be in the Friday Folder, although we are aiming to be paperless. Your child’s Progress Report can be found on Infinite Campus. Please see the office staff for further information and your login/password.

Volunteers: After the first two full weeks of school, volunteers are welcome in the classroom as well as some outside volunteer opportunities. Volunteering is essential in providing the best opportunity for your child’s education. Keep an eye out for specific information about volunteering.

Snack: Please send your child with a daily snack and drink. Water bottles are also welcomed, but please make sure the student’s name is on it.

Birthdays: If your child would like to bring a birthday treat, feel free to do so. In addition to the special treat, we will do “Walk Around the Sun” as part of the celebration.

Communication: Thankfully, Kindergarten has a high Parent/Guardian to Teacher interaction. A simple note in your child’s homework folder is also an effective way. The best way is email. My email address is: thickey@bromleyeastcs.org. Please send me an email! This ensures that your address is correctly entered into my address book. Also, our class blog will be updated frequently with not only information and happenings, but also pictures and videos of students. Please check the blog at least once a week. http://mstiffanyhickey.blogspot.com/  The goal is to be paperless!

This is going to be an exciting year! Naturally, events and concerns will arise, so keep an eye on the blog or shoot me an email.

Best Wishes,
Ms. Hickey
